2024 March (3月) Lloyd's column
As you all know I love snowboarding in winter.
Backcountry snowboarding is my passion.
I look forward to it all year.
I think about climbing the snowy mountains around Daisen.
I think about battling the weather.
I think about the freedom it gives me.
I think about the great memories I make with my friends.
But this year almost nothing!!
I can’t believe it.
It has been so warm.
20 degrees in mid-February!!
It really has been a strange winter or maybe skipped winter and went straight to spring.
I read that this type of weather only happens about every 20 years in Japan.
Also I read that next year La Nina will return bring lots of snow back here.
Luckily I did get to go Hokkaido in February with my friend for a week.
The snow wasn’t as amazing as usual but still very good.
This time we went to Furano, it was great.
It wasn’t as busy or expensive as Niseko but still very popular for foreign visitors. The backcountry around the area was a lot of fun and the wild hot springs were fantastic.
I’ve already got my fingers crossed for the next winter season!!

ご存じの通り、僕は冬にスノボをするのが大好きだ。
バックカントリーのスノボは僕が夢中になれること。
1年中ず～っとそれを楽しみにしてるんだ。
雪の大山を登ることを考えて、
悪天候に立ち向かう事を考えて、
そこで得られる自由な気分を考えて、
友達たちと作る素晴らしい出来事の事を考えて。
なのに今年は何も無い！！
信じられないよ！！
ず～っと暖かいじゃないか！！
2月の中で20°！！
本当に異常な冬、って言うか冬は無くて春がそのまま来ちゃった的な感じ？
日本では20年に一度こんな天気があるんだって読んだよ。
そして来年はラニイナが沢山の雪を運んできてくれるってこともね。
幸いにも僕は友達と2月に1週間北海道に行くことが出来た。
雪は例年ほど最高って訳にはいかなかったけど、でも良かったよ。
今回は富良野に行ったんだ。素晴らしかった。
ニセコほど混んでなかったし高くもなかったしね。
でもやっぱり外国人の観光客には人気があった。
そこの辺りのバックカントリーはすごい楽しくて自然の露天風呂も最高だった。
僕はもう来年の冬のために祈ってるよ。
