Niseko revisited
My friend and I took our annual snowboarding trip again this year.
We decided to go back to Niseko, but wow it was very different from last year.
Last year there were very few people, we didn’t have to line up for lifts or tickets and we got fresh tracks almost all day every day.
Now that Japan has reopened the international boarders, it has changed.
There were many, many people from many different countries, we felt like we were overseas!
Everyone in our hotel was Australian, they didn’t even have chopsticks in our hotel, I couldn’t believe it!!
I am not complaining though because we had a great time and it was fun to chat with many different people!
I could even show off with my very basic Japanese language skills!
Also we discovered Kiroro resort, about a 45 minute drive from Niseko.
It was a new mountain for us and because the hotels there are closed there weren’t many people.
I love discovering new mountains, finding new backcountry routes and searching for powder!!
I’ve already started to think about next year’s trip, will we go back to Niseko or maybe somewhere in Nagano or Niigata?
I don’t know yet but if you have any recommendations please let me know!

ニセコ再訪
友達と私は今年又、年に一度の恒例行事のスノボ旅をしたんだ。
僕たちは ニセコにまた行くことにしたんだけど、なんと、去年とは全然違ってたんだ。
去年はほんの少ししか人がいなくてチケットを買ったり、リフトに並んだりしなくてもよかったし、ほぼ毎日一日中フレッシュトラックを滑れたんだ。
今、日本は国境線を再開し、それは変わってしまったよ。
いろんな国からのものすごい数の人、人、人。海外にいるみたいだったよ。
僕たちのホテルにいたのは、オーストラリア人でホテルには箸なんて置いてなかった。 ほんと信じられない！！
文句言ってるわけじゃないんだ。だって、色んな国の人たちとお喋りして、楽しくて最高の時間をすごしたからね。
僕の片言の日本語を、自慢する事だって出来たんだ。
ニセコから、車で45分のキロロリゾートっていうところも見つけたよ。
僕らにとっては新しい場所で、ホテルが閉館していたために、ほんとに人がいなかったんだ。
新しい山、新しいバックカントリーのルート、新雪を見つけるの、大好きだよ。
もうすでに来年の旅行、ニセコにまた来るか、長野のどこかに行くか、新潟にするかについて考え始めてるんだ。
まだわからないけど、もし何かお勧めがあれば、教えてほしいな。
